John joined the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Harvard Medical School, Boston, as the second scientist recruited in 1981 to work on the ImmunoGen-funded programs to develop antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs) and immunotoxins for cancer therapy. He later held several leadership roles at ImmunoGen, including Executive Vice President of Research and Chief Scientific Officer (2008- 2015), and Distinguished Research Fellow until his retirement in 2017. During his tenure at ImmunoGen, the team invented and developed the ADC technology behind KADCYLA® and ELAHERE® and discovered the anti-CD38 antibody that became the SARCLISA®.
John holds a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the University of Cambridge and has authored over 125 peer-reviewed scientific publications. He is a Fellow of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering, and an Honorary Professorship at The Queen’s University Belfast.
